Join us for the Ted Circles Discussions

The theme for January 2021: Inter-Generational Learning

The talks are focused on the theme of inter-generational learning, a concept that goes beyond the concept of schooling where teachers from an older generation engage young students in learning. These talks emphasize the importance of reciprocal learning between the different generations: the young learn to value the wisdom of elders, and elders appreciate the impact of their work and decision-making on upcoming generations' lives.

Learned Optimism

 Humanities Lecture:  Learned Optimism

Is your inner voice optimistic or pessimistic?  What is your explanation to yourself when you face challenges; when things don’t go your way?  When you face adversity in your life do you think it’s permanent, pervasive, and your fault?

Join us for a lively discussion about learned optimism.  We will discuss the benefits to having an optimistic explanatory style rather than a pessimistic explanatory style.  Learn the ABCDE’s of cognitive behavior therapy, how to apply the approach in your life, and reap the sustainable rewards of positive psychology.  Come join us to learn how to improve the quality of your life by changing your mind and your life!

Shawn Schooley, Ph.D., SCSU

This will be offered as a combination of In-person (limit 6) and Zoom
