Jeff Hancock: The future of lying During the November TED Circles, we will listen to TED TALKS and discuss ideas about truth telling and lying. The following overall questions will guide our discussions:- What do we like to believe about ourselves or with regard to matters around and close to us?
- What biases do we carry and how do those color our perceptions of truth?
- What deceptions do we engage in?
- And, do we recognize and accept those in others?
TED TALK for Tuesday, November 17th
Who hasn’t sent a text message saying “I’m on my way” when it wasn’t true or fudged the truth a touch in their online dating profile? But Jeff Hancock doesn’t believe that the anonymity of the internet encourages dishonesty. In fact, he says the searchability and permanence of information online may even keep us honest.
