Bites
Domestic Animal Bites
- Wash the injury with soap and water.
- Contact your physician for further steps in the care of your injury.
- Contact Animal Control with the following information
- Animal owners information (name/ address/ phone number)
- Rabies vaccination information (if known)
- Animal's description
- Address and location of where the bite occurred
- Contact information for any witnesses
- If the owner of the animal is unknown
- Contain the animal if you are able to safely do so. Immediately call animal control.
- If you are unable to contain the animal
- Contact Animal Control immediately and provide them with information of what happened, description of the animal, and where it went.
Dog Attacks
- Do not run away or scream.
- Stand still with your hands at your sides and avoid eye contact with the dog.
- Remain motionless until the dog is no longer interested and walks away.
- If the dog does attack, put anything you have in between you and the dog. Any item such as a purse, bike or jacket will help. Keep the item positioned between you and the dog and if they try to bite put the item in their mouths to prevent them from biting you.
Wild Animal Bites
- If safe, capture or contain the animal (for tips on capturing bats, see link below)
- Seek medical attention
- Contact animal control with the following information:
- Your name and contact information
- Type of animal that bit
- Address and location of where the incident occurred
- Where the animal currently is, and if it's contained
