Equipment was installed at the Wastewater Treatment Facility in order to continue and improve production of a highly valuable, nutrient rich soil amendment for area landowners and farmers.
Enhanced nutrient recovery has been accomplished by installing equipment that will produce a nutrient-rich, environmentally-friendly, fertilizer pellet product. In addition to helping improve the land by providing important fertilizers to area farms, this process will also enhance the protection of local water resources by preventing excess phosphorous from entering area waterways.
The City of St. Cloud received notification in July 2017 that a reservation of 6.6 million dollars of Point Source Implementation Grant funds has been made by the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority. The grant funds will be used to recover phosphorous and produce a fertilizer product at the St. Cloud Wastewater Treatment Facility. The grant is made possible by the Clean Water Legacy Act.
