St. Cloud City Council
St. Cloud's City Council is comprised of seven members split between four ward seats and three at-large seats. The City Council maintains the legislative powers in St. Cloud city government. Matters such as adoption of the budget, authorizing bond issues, the adoption of ordinances, and the confirmation of Mayoral appointments. The Council members serve a four-year term.
The St. Cloud City Council conducts regular meetings on two Mondays each month beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers in City Hall, 400 2nd Street South. The meetings normally run two to three hours in length. Check the "Meeting Dates" link for a complete calendar of Council meetings and study sessions. The agenda is published the Saturday before the Monday night City Council meeting in the St. Cloud Times. While all meetings of the St. Cloud City Council are open to the public, not all items on the agenda are open for public testimony. The consent agenda portion of the meeting agenda consists of items which are generally non-controversial in nature and are usually approved by unanimous consent of the Council. Council members may ask to remove an item from the consent agenda for further discussion as a separate item. Public hearings are regularly held on issues requiring public input. The City Council President will open each public hearing for public testimony. Members of the public may approach the podium, state their full name and address, and state their question, comment, or opinion. You may have a topic of concern placed on the agenda by: Going to the Department which would handle the issue and they thereafter would present the issue to the Council. Contact the Mayor's Office at 255-7201 with any questions. A member of the Council may bring an issue up for the discussion. Immediately following the Consent Agenda an open forum is held where individuals may speak for two minutes about an issue or concern. |
